Electricity cost reductions and consumer protections introduced in Serbia and Croatia

New measures and legislative changes in Serbia and Croatia aim to reduce electricity costs and protect vulnerable consumers.

In Serbia, citizens can reduce their electricity bills by switching from paper to electronic billing. Using the ‘EPS Uvid u račun’ app or the official website to opt for e-bills provides a 70 percent discount, provided payment is made by the 20th of the month. Additionally, pensioners with monthly incomes below 31,092.11 dinars are automatically granted ‘energy vulnerable customer’ status, qualifying them for a 1,000 dinar discount on their bills.

In Croatia, amendments to the Electricity Market Act, passed by the Sabor, prohibit the disconnection of electricity for vulnerable customers and households facing energy poverty. Suppliers are now required to warn users of unusually high consumption, offer flexible debt repayment plans, and provide information regarding subsidies. The law also introduces more consumer choice, including fixed-price contracts, and aligns Croatian legislation with European Union regulations.
