Electricity supply issues impact residents in Gran La Plata

Residents in the Gran La Plata region are facing frequent and prolonged electricity supply interruptions, which local authorities and the Electricity Control Organism of the Province of Buenos Aires (OCEBA) have frequently attributed to weather conditions or excessive consumption.

Following a substation fire in Tolosa, OCEBA announced compensation for affected residents, including electro-dependent individuals and local businesses. However, critics have described the compensation amounts as insufficient. Tensions have risen due to claims that the substation had not been inspected prior to the incident, despite neighborhood leaders reporting long-standing transformer failures.

On an individual level, the instability of the service has led to severe financial consequences. In Santa Rosa, a resident named Pamela Pareja is organizing a raffle to pay a debt of 3.5 million pesos after her electricity was disconnected due to a third party's failure to pay. The disconnection has significantly impacted her household, which includes a child with a disability who relies on electrical power.
