Electricity vandalism leads to electrocution incidents in Uganda and Ghana

Two separate incidents of suspected electricity infrastructure vandalism have resulted in electrocutions in Uganda and Ghana.

In Luweero District, Uganda, a man identified as Musisi Kwizera was electrocuted in Tebalyala Village while allegedly tampering with an electricity line. Police discovered Kwizera unconscious near an electricity pole with a pair of pliers. Authorities recovered approximately 100 metres of electricity wire, a motorcycle, and a smartphone from the scene. His brother, Moses Sande, has been detained to assist with ongoing investigations.

In Tamale, Ghana, a man in his 30s died after being electrocuted inside a Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) substation. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, October 24, caused power disruptions in the Tamale Business District. Officials reported that components of the substation equipment had been removed and placed in a bag, suggesting an attempt to steal metal components. Police have moved the body to the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue.
