Electrification and automation drive new energy management standards
The energy transformation of buildings is entering a new phase driven by the convergence of electrification, digitalization, and automation. As traditional fossil fuel uses shift toward electricity—including heat pumps, photovoltaic self-consumption, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure—the need for intelligent management becomes critical to optimize consumption.
In Spain, the challenge is significant as 50% of existing buildings date back to before 1980, and the annual renovation rate of approximately 1% remains below the European target of 3%. While renewable energy generation in Spain exceeded 56.6% in 2025, electrification without coordinated management limits the potential for true efficiency.
This evolution is redefining the role of electrical professionals. Electricians are transitioning from technical executors to strategic advisors who help clients adopt new technologies, such as energy management systems and residential automation. Tools like Schneider Electric’s SpaceLogic KNX and the mySchneider Rewards program aim to support this shift by providing the digital tools and training necessary to manage complex, interconnected energy ecosystems.
