Electro Optic Systems lands $5.7 million Australian defence contract, boosting counter‑drone capability

Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has been chosen as the industry partner for Mission Syracuse, an Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator initiative aimed at accelerating Counter‑Uncrewed Aerial Systems (CUAS) for the Australian Defence Force. Under a $5.7 million contract the company will develop the R400 SLINGER, an all‑in‑one remote weapon system that integrates a laser‑guided rocket to counter small and medium‑sized drones, with manufacturing and sustainment to be carried out in Australia.

The contract follows a strong market performance for Australian defence firms. EOS shares have risen about 126 % over the past twelve months, and the company reported a record order book of $846 million as of 30 June, up 84 % from the previous year. The surge reflects heightened global military spending, the growing role of drone warfare, and Australia’s AUKUS commitments, positioning EOS as a key sovereign supplier of kinetic counter‑drone solutions.
