Electro Oriente to reorganize to boost electrical capacity in Peru
Electro Oriente is undergoing an urgent reorganization to strengthen its operational capacity and ensure continuous electrical service across the Loreto, San Martín, Amazonas, and Cajamarca regions. The decision was ratified following a meeting between Peru’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Guillermo Shinno, and the company’s board president, Bartolomé Cuevas.
To address growing energy demand, the company plans to secure 9 MW of additional power in Iquitos in the short term. Through the upgrading of generation units, the company aims to reach an accumulated capacity of 32 MW by December. In the San Martín region, efforts will focus on contracting 6.2 MW of power to stabilize the transmission system.
Management is also prioritizing maintenance, the recovery of generation units, and the clearing of service easements in the Lamas and Bajo Huallaga sectors to reduce risks from vegetation, wind, and forest fires. These measures are intended to improve service reliability and meet the increasing energy needs of the population.
