Electrochem Ghana dispute in Ada sparks call for government‑mediated dialogue

A standoff has developed between Electrochem Ghana Limited and sections of the indigenous community in the Ada Traditional Area over the use of ancestral lands and natural resources. The tension threatens local peace, the livelihoods of fishermen, salt‑workers, traders and families, and the confidence of investors.

Dr. Divine Kabutey Agyemang‑Lardey, leader of the Inspire Them Foundation and a native of Ada, urged the Government of Ghana to intervene immediately. He called for an impartial, transparent and inclusive dialogue that brings together government officials, Electrochem Ghana, traditional authorities, community leaders, youth, women’s representatives and civil‑society groups to seek lasting solutions. He also appealed for restraint, warning that violence or intimidation would deepen divisions and delay resolution.
