Electrolux to close Rosario plant and shift to imports

Electrolux Group has announced the permanent closure of its manufacturing plant in Rosario, Argentina, transitioning from local production to an import-based model to supply the Argentine market. The decision follows a progressive reduction in workforce and production lines that began months ago.

The closure affects approximately 200 workers. In response to the sudden announcement, the Unión Obrera Metalúrgica (UOM) has challenged the legality of the layoffs, alleging that the company failed to follow the mandatory crisis prevention procedures. The union is seeking the nullity of the dismissals and the reinstatement of employees.

The Ministry of Labor of Santa Fe has intervened by dictating a period of mandatory conciliation effective until October 20. During this time, the layoffs are temporarily suspended, and the company is required to pay 100% of the workers' salaries, although employees are not required to attend the plant. This period serves as a formal negotiation window between the company and the union to discuss the future of the facility and the workforce.
