Electronic Arts becomes private following $55 billion acquisition

Electronic Arts has transitioned to a private company following a major acquisition by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF). The deal, which values the company at approximately $55 billion, grants the PIF a 93.4% controlling interest. Other stakeholders include Silver Lake Partners with 5.5% and Affinity Partners with 1.1%.

In a separate operational move, the company has announced it will shut down the servers for NHL 22 and NHL 23 on September 1. This decision will render all online content and features for these titles inaccessible, a move attributed to the declining player base and the high costs of maintaining servers for older titles in the service-based gaming model.
