Electronic Frontier Foundation releases Privacy Badger for Safari on macOS

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has released Privacy Badger for Safari on macOS, making the tracker-blocking extension available on Apple’s desktop browser. The release, which requires Safari 26.5 or later, is available through the Mac App Store and fulfills a long-standing user request.

Privacy Badger targets third-party trackers embedded in websites that collect browsing information for advertising and data broker systems. While Safari includes built-in Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) to restrict the information trackers can access, Privacy Badger provides an additional layer of security by blocking identified trackers from loading entirely.

The extension uses algorithmic detection to identify tracking behavior. To protect user privacy, the EFF uses an automated training system to provide tracker knowledge via periodic updates rather than relying on local learning from individual browsing activity, a practice the organization changed in 2020 to prevent users from becoming more identifiable.
