Electronic hardware development at FH Campus Wien

Academic research at FH Campus Wien has focused on the development of specialized electronic hardware for educational and IoT applications.

One project involved the evolution of a sensor board into an SMD-based system integrated with the Microsoft Azure Cloud. Utilizing an ESP32-C6 microcontroller, the board is designed for environmental and air quality monitoring, specifically for reading dust sensors. The transition to SMD components allows for automated assembly and improved electrical properties, with data transmitted securely to the cloud.

A second project focused on the design of a flexible STM32 experimental board for applied electronics students. This development included expanding peripheral capabilities with components such as LCD or OLED displays, rotary encoders, joysticks, and Segger J-Link connectivity. The research also addressed minimizing interference and optimizing the arrangement of I/O components on a compact layout.
