Electronics repair demand grows as consumers extend device lifecycles

The demand for repairing smartphones and laptops has remained strong over the past decade due to the increasing necessity of digital devices in daily life and work. As the cost of new high-end devices rises, many consumers prefer repairing existing hardware—such as replacing batteries, screens, or upgrading components—to extend product lifecycles.

Technicians note that the profession is evolving. While basic tasks like battery replacement were common years ago, modern repairs often require advanced diagnostic skills to troubleshoot complex issues on circuit boards. Furthermore, while AI can assist with data analysis and technical information, it cannot replace the physical dexterity required for manual disassembly, component measurement, and hands-on repair.

In tandem with the repair trend, there is a growing need to manage obsolete technology. Experts suggest that instead of hoarding unused electronics like old headphones, tablets, or gaming consoles, consumers should consider recycling or donating them. Proper disposal, such as using specialized battery recycling centers for wireless headphones, is essential for environmental protection.
