Elefsina–Oinofyta highway proposed as 40km Athens bypass
The Greek government is considering the construction of the Elefsina–Oinofyta highway, a new 40-kilometer road axis intended to alleviate severe traffic congestion in the Athens metropolitan area.
Designed to serve as a northern bypass for Athens, the highway would connect Oinofyta to Agios Loukas, where it would link directly with the Attiki Odos. The primary objective is to divert transit traffic, particularly heavy goods vehicles traveling from Northern and Central Greece toward the Peloponnese, away from the heavily congested Kifissos Avenue.
