Eleja Manor Park restoration completed in Jelgava municipality

The northwestern part of Eleja Manor Park, known as Mežaparks, has undergone extensive landscaping and restoration. The project was implemented as part of the “Green Secrets” cross-border cooperation program between Latvia and Lithuania.

Guided by Georg Kufalt’s 1905 landscape architecture plans and a 2018 management plan, the works aimed to restore the historical landscape while increasing accessibility. New amenities include a children's playground, benches, a picnic table, directional signs, and informative stands. The project also introduced sensory gardens designed to enhance the visitor experience through various tactile and sensory elements.

The restoration of Eleja Manor Park has been an ongoing effort since 2009, including the restoration of the historical stone fence, the Tea House, and various park paths. Other completed works include the installation of the “Saruna” interactive object, the “Mīlestībai” sculpture by Gļebs Panteļejevs, and the restoration of the entrance bridge and gates.

The total funding for the “Green Secrets” project amounted to €740,810.12, with €592,648.09 provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERAF).
