Eleşkirt strawberry production expands through provincial grants

The Ağrı Special Provincial Administration has launched a strawberry cultivation project in the Eleşkirt district to increase fruit production across the province. The initiative provides 75% grant support to local producers.

One local producer, Yıldıray Karabaş, transitioned from hobby farming to commercial production using the provided equipment and seedlings. By expanding his cultivation area to 2.5 decares, he achieved a seasonal yield of approximately 5 tons. The high altitude and temperature fluctuations in the region contribute to the high aroma of the fruit.

The project, which has a total budget of 6 million lira, aims to distribute seedlings, drip irrigation pipes, and mulch film to 100 producers. Total regional strawberry yields are expected to reach nearly 200 tons this year.
