Elektra fined for carbon monoxide leak in Celaya
The Mexican retailer Elektra has been fined 11,731 pesos following a carbon monoxide leak at its store in Celaya, Guanajuato. The incident occurred on July 12 when a diesel-powered generator was operated without adequate safety measures, leading to a saturation of carbon monoxide inside the establishment.
Local civil protection authorities temporarily closed the store on Calle Morelos after customers and employees were exposed to the gas. The store was permitted to resume operations after management addressed the safety deficiencies, restored the electrical system, and implemented electronic security and detection equipment. Officials confirmed that the retailer has since submitted an updated Internal Civil Protection Program to comply with local regulations.
