Elementary student dies after falling into reservoir in Anseong

A 9-year-old boy died after falling into a reservoir at a fishing site in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, late on the night of January 24.

According to police and fire authorities, emergency services received a report around 11:53 p.m. stating the child was missing. After a search involving divers and underwater drones, the boy was discovered in approximately 1.7 meters of water near a floating bungalow at around 3:30 a.m. on January 25. He was found in cardiac arrest and later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations suggest the child was moving between bungalows while with his family when he lost his footing and fell into the water. Police have reported finding no signs of foul play and are treating the incident as an accident.
