Elena Akrita condemns sexual violence allegation in Greece

SYRIZA Member of Parliament Elena Akrita has issued a strong condemnation following an anonymous allegation of sexual violence and abuse published via Indymedia. The report describes a woman who claims to have suffered repeated sexual abuse and manipulative behavior from a man identified only by the initial ‘M.’, who is described as an anti-fascist, anti-racist, and anti-sexist activist.

Akrita stated that issues of gender and sexual violence should not be treated differently based on the political or ideological identity of the accused. She emphasized that left-wing identity, anti-fascist action, or involvement in social movements should not serve as a ‘blanket permit’ or excuse for such behavior. Akrita called for an end to any attempts at political or movement-based impunity, stating, “No cover-up. No silence. No party or movement impunity.”
