Elena Akrita threatens legal action against Pavlos Marinakis

A sharp political confrontation has erupted in Greece between government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis and SYRIZA MP Elena Akrita. The dispute follows the opposition of the New Democracy party regarding Akrita’s candidacy for the position of Fifth Vice President of the Parliament.

During a television appearance on OPEN, Marinakis alleged that Akrita had participated in online rhetoric involving calls for violence and ‘hangings’ in public squares. In response, Akrita has accused Marinakis of spreading “slanderous lies,” stating that she has never incited violence or called for such actions in any of her articles or posts. She has demanded a retraction and threatened legal action if the claims are not corrected.

SYRIZA has also issued a statement condemning Marinakis’s comments, characterizing them as an attempt to justify institutional attacks against the party and accusing him of poisoning public discourse.
