Elena Băsescu Helps Amend Romania’s Stadium Law

Romanian parliament approved the “Legea Paraschiv”, a revision of the stadium law originally promulgated by former President Traian Băsescu in 2012. The amendment, signed by President Nicușor Dan on 20 July 2026, relaxes restrictions on supporters, allowing, for example, the sale of draft beer at matches such as the Dinamo‑Universitatea Craiova game on 25 July.

Elena Băsescu, daughter of Traian Băsescu and parliamentary adviser to the Committee for Youth and Sport, was listed among the technical staff that drafted the new text. In a parliamentary session she was thanked alongside other consultants for work on more than 100 amendments that harmonised the legislation. The law bears the name of its champion, Ciprian Paraschiv, president of the sports commission in the Chamber of Deputies.

The change is presented as a response to the earlier “Law 4”, which had tightened stadium regulations, and is intended to improve the fan experience while maintaining safety standards.
