Timișoara organ donation enables five successful transplants

Five patients, including a two-and-a-half-year-old child, have received life-saving transplants following an organ and tissue donation in Timișoara. The donor, a 17-year-old girl who was declared brain dead, had her family consent to the procedure at the Timiș County Hospital.

The donation enabled several successful procedures: two liver transplants (one utilizing a split hepatic procedure for a 44-year-old man at Fundeni Clinical Institute and a toddler at Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital), two kidney transplants in Cluj-Napoca for a seven-year-old boy and a 23-year-old woman, and a cornea transplant in Bucharest.

Because no compatible recipient was identified in Romania for the heart graft, the organ was recovered by a medical team from Germany. The National Transplant Agency expressed gratitude to the donor's family and the various medical teams involved in the coordination and execution of the transplants.
