Elena Ramírez discusses the evolving role of literary editing

Editor Elena Ramírez, who leads the Seix Barral publishing house and manages the International Fiction Department for Grupo Planeta, discussed the complexities of her profession in a recent video podcast episode of ‘Libros y Cosas’.

Ramírez, who moved from Madrid to Barcelona nearly three decades ago, highlighted the non-monotonous nature of editing. She noted that every author and every book requires a unique approach, stating that “each book requires a different process by the writer” and that the diversity of projects prevents monotony. Her career includes work with notable authors such as Paul Auster, Rosa Montero, and Don DeLillo.
