Elena Xydia’s Sea Piano Performance Goes Viral from Zakynthos

Greek pianist Elena Xydia performed George Frideric Handel’s “Passacaglia” on a piano placed in the sea at the Naftaki beach on the island of Zakynthos. The video, filmed during a boat‑borne cruise along the island’s western coast, shows the instrument’s sound resonating with the crystal‑clear water, caves and cliffs.

Xydia told the television channel Alpha that the project began during the pandemic and that she and director Paschalis Mantis have since taken the piano to 25 iconic locations, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. The striking footage has been shared widely on social media, drawing attention to Zakynthos’s natural beauty and boosting interest among viewers in Greece and abroad.
