Eleonora Alvisi suffers serious knee injury during tennis match
Italian tennis player Eleonora Alvisi suffered a serious knee injury during an ITF W35 qualifying match in Santa Margherita di Pula. The incident occurred during a tie-break in the second set of her match against Sweden’s Isabel Skoog.
Alvisi, ranked 1004th in the world, tripped on an uneven section of the clay court, leading to an unnatural movement of her left knee. The severity of the injury was underscored by her reaction on the court, which prompted immediate medical attention and the intervention of the chair umpire. The match was subsequently awarded to Skoog.
There are concerns that Alvisi may have suffered torn ligaments, which could result in a long-term absence from professional tennis. Medical examinations are expected in the coming days to determine the exact extent of the damage and the required recovery period.
