Elethron secures Starlab payload reservation for in-space semiconductor processing

Elethron, a Houston-based materials and process engineering company, has secured a payload reservation aboard the commercial space station Starlab to deploy its ĀTAR autonomous materials-processing platform.

The six-month pilot program in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) aims to utilize microgravity to reduce crystal defects and improve compositional uniformity during the manufacturing of semiconductor materials. This process is intended to enhance the performance of power electronics, radio frequency (RF) systems, integrated photonics, sensing, and extreme-environment electronics.

The ĀTAR platform features a modular architecture using interchangeable Smart Cartridges, which allows for different materials processing campaigns without requiring a complete payload redesign. The partnership supports Starlab’s objective to facilitate commercial in-space manufacturing as part of its broader ecosystem.
