Eletricidade de Moçambique to invest 19 million euros in Tete energy infrastructure

Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) has announced an investment of over 19 million euros to develop a new electrical substation and energy transmission line in Tete province. The company plans to launch the tender for the works within the current quarter, noting that a consultant has already been appointed.

The project is a key component of EDM’s “green corridors” strategy, which aims to strengthen energy transport capacity and facilitate the integration of new renewable energy sources into the national electrical system. Executive Administrator António Munguambe stated that these corridors act as “highways” to support both traditional energy and the diversification of the energy matrix to meet growing demand.

The infrastructure will have a capacity of up to 66 kilovolts. The first phase of the project will cover the section between Songo and Matambo, linking the Songo area, home to the Cahora Bassa dam, to the Matambo substation located in the Changara district.
