Eletronet launches first European PoP in Lisbon, connecting Brazil and Portugal

Eletronet, an Axia Energia company, has launched its first European Point of Presence (PoP) in Lisbon, Portugal. This new infrastructure establishes a direct route between Lisbon and Fortaleza, Brazil, featuring a latency of less than 65 milliseconds.

The expansion is part of Eletronet’s internationalization strategy, adding to its existing PoPs in New York and Miami. The service is designed for internet service providers, telecommunications operators, data centers, hyperscalers, and content providers. Offered services include international data transport, access to Brazilian traffic and content for European clients, and colocation solutions.

The Lisbon PoP integrates with Eletronet’s Brazilian backbone, which consists of 18,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable across 18 states and 170 Edge Data Centers. The connection utilizes Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) optical transponders and the Packet-Optical 6500 platform.
