ELGA begins damage assessment in Crete after severe storms
The Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organization (ELGA) has initiated a damage assessment process in Crete following severe weather events. Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Giannis Andrianos, is participating in a government mission to visit the affected areas.
ELGA officials, including Heraklion Branch Manager Nikolaos Daskalakis and Insurance Director Anastasia Belesioti, are organizing teams of technical employees to delineate affected zones, identify damaged crops, and determine losses to livestock. The assessment process involves three main steps: field teams defining boundaries, the opening of damage notifications for producers to submit declarations, and technical evaluations once water levels recede.
To expedite the process, the ELGA Central Administration will provide additional human resources to the Heraklion branch. Technical staff will follow all regulatory provisions to ensure assessments are completed quickly, particularly regarding livestock, to protect public health.
