ELGA provides 5 million euros to wildfire-affected farmers

ELGA has disbursed 5 million euros in advance payments to farmers who suffered damage to their plant capital during the 2024 wildfires. These funds, intended to cover losses to trees, vineyards, and other perennial crops, were transferred to beneficiaries' bank accounts via the Bank of Greece system.

The 2024 Fire Program is funded by the Public Investment Subprogram of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, rather than ELGA’s regular insurance contribution revenues. This ensures that coverage for the 2024 fires does not deplete the organization's standard compensation reserves.

Separately, ELGA reported that between 2020 and 2026, it has paid out over 2.1 billion euros in compensations and state aid to support agricultural households facing extreme weather events, such as storms 'Ioannis' and 'Daniel'. ELGA President Andreas Lykourentzos noted that while the organization remains reliable, the increasing frequency of climate-related disasters creates ongoing financial challenges.
