Elgin Community College disables surveillance cameras to protect students

Elgin Community College has taken steps to disable surveillance cameras by covering them with trash bags and zip ties. The college's decision follows a refusal by the company Flock to remove its cameras, which the institution sought to do in order to protect immigrant students.

Public records indicate that federal immigration authorities have previously accessed Flock data at other colleges within Illinois.
