Eli addresses controversy over child support payments

Eli, a former member of the K-pop group U-KISS, has addressed recent public criticism regarding his child support payments. The controversy arose after his ex-wife, Ji Yeon-soo, stated in media appearances that she receives 850,000 KRW per month in child support, noting that the amount does not reflect current living costs.

In a lengthy social media post, Eli clarified that during their divorce proceedings, he preferred to send funds directly for specific needs rather than a fixed monthly amount. He claimed that during a period of three to four months, he sent approximately $6,000 to $8,000 per month to cover expenses such as school supplies and dining. He expressed hurt over being labeled a ‘trashy human’ or ‘monster’ in public comments, especially after seeing his ex-wife mention the lack of child support on a broadcast.

Eli explained that the current 850,000 KRW figure was a result of the specific circumstances and financial constraints faced during the pandemic, when he was working for minimum wage. He stated that he continues to provide financial support to his son during holidays and visits, emphasizing that his son’s well-being is more important than winning internet arguments.
