Eli Roth admits generative AI used in small portion of horror film Ice Cream Man

Director Eli Roth initially denied that his new horror film *Ice Cream Man* employed generative AI, but later clarified that a very small portion of a few scenes was created with AI tools. Roth said he "misspoke" and described the technology as a creative aid, without specifying which sequences were affected. The film, produced by Roth’s own company The Horror Section with a budget of about $7 million, opens in U.S. theaters on August 7. The revelation comes amid a broader Hollywood debate over the role of artificial intelligence in filmmaking, with some creators embracing the technology and others, such as Guillermo del Toro, rejecting it outright.
