Elia Comini beatified in Bologna

On September 27, 2026, a beatification ceremony was held in Bologna, Italy, for Elia Comini, a Salesian priest and martyr from Monte Sole. Comini, who lived from 1910 to 1944, was recognized for his service to residents and refugees during the conflicts of World War II in the Salvaro parish.

During the war, Comini provided medical aid, performed baptisms under fire, and assisted the wounded. He was arrested by the SS alongside Martino Capellim after attempting to provide holy oils to 69 hostages. Comini refused offers of freedom that were not extended to his fellow prisoners. Following his execution, his body was recovered from the Reno River.

Comini was beatified alongside diocesan priest Ubaldo Marchionim and Sercan priest Martino Capellim.
