Elif Eralp files defamation complaint against Alexander Dobrindt

Berlin politician Elif Eralp and the Die Linke party have filed a criminal complaint against Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt for defamation and insult.

The legal action stems from a televised debate on the ZDF talk show ‘Maybrit Illner’ on September 24. During the program, host Maybrit Illner made a slip of the tongue regarding Eralp, quickly correcting herself by stating, ‘Elif Eralp says she is an antisemite... She is not an antisemite.’ Dobrindt responded to the error by saying, ‘Yes, she is.’

Legal representatives for Eralp argue that Dobrindt’s comment constitutes a false statement of fact and an insult that significantly damages her reputation. The incident has escalated a political dispute regarding antisemitism allegations into a criminal matter.
