Elif Önder learns to read and write at age 72

Elif Önder, a 72-year-old woman in Gaziantep, has fulfilled her lifelong dream of learning to read and write. Having been prevented from attending school during her childhood, Önder faced various daily challenges due to illiteracy.

Her life changed after receiving a recommendation from a woman she met while at a park with her grandchild. Önder enrolled in a literacy course at the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Active Life and Education Center. After a year of dedicated study, she successfully learned to read and write, enabling her to perform tasks such as reading bus stops and neighborhood names independently.

Following her literacy training, Önder has continued her education by enrolling in a Quran course.
