Elijah Oyebode livestreams from Ogun State prison on TikTok
Elijah Oyebode, a death‑row inmate at the Ibara Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was convicted in 2019 for the 2016 ritual murder of university student Rofiat Adebisi and sentenced to death by hanging. An investigation by Premium Times revealed that while incarcerated he operated at least two TikTok accounts, regularly hosted livestreams and received monetary gifts from viewers, reaching the platform’s Level 20 gifting status.
Oyebode alleged that mobile phones are routinely smuggled into the prison with the assistance of correctional officers, who he claims also extort inmates by confiscating devices and demanding payment for their return. The Nigerian Correctional Service acknowledged the possibility of compromised officers but said evidence is required before any sanctions can be applied. The revelations have prompted calls for an urgent inquiry into phone‑smuggling and extortion practices within the prison system.
