Svitolina and Monfils reach US Open mixed doubles semifinals

Married tennis players Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils have advanced to the mixed doubles semifinals at the 2026 US Open. The duo entered the tournament with low expectations but secured two significant victories in New York.

Their first match was a dominant 4-1, 4-1 win over Alex Eala and Felix Auger-Aliassime. They followed this by defeating the top-ranked mixed doubles pair, Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten, with a score of 5-4 (6), 4-5 (3), 10-8.

Svitolina attributed their success to their natural chemistry and ability to understand each other's moods and reactions. Monfils, who is currently on a farewell tour before retirement, noted the experience as a valuable memory. The pair is scheduled to face Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli in the semifinals, with a $1 million prize at stake for the winners.
