Elina Svitolina withdraws from Cincinnati Open due to injury

Elina Svitolina has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a right ankle injury. The world No. 9 was scheduled to face Xiyu Wang in a third-round match but was unable to compete following medical advice.

The injury was sustained during the National Bank Open in Toronto. Svitolina had previously managed to play through discomfort during her second-round match against Tereza Valentova, where she required a medical timeout but ultimately secured a victory.

Following Svitolina's withdrawal, Xiyu Wang advances to the fourth round, where she is set to face American player Madison Keys. Svitolina's withdrawal raises questions regarding her readiness for the upcoming US Open, which begins on August 30.
