Elis Regina documentary ‘Elis & Eu’ explores musical legacy

The new documentaryElis & Eu’ premieres on Universal+, exploring the life and career of legendary Brazilian singer Elis Regina through the lens of nine pivotal songs. Directed by André Bushatsky, the film is inspired by the book by Regina’s eldest son, João Marcello Bôscoli, and utilizes rare images, dramatizations, and personal memories to reconstruct her trajectory.

The documentary uses music as a narrative thread to contextualize different stages of her career and her influence on Música Popular Brasileira (MPB). Key songs highlighted include ‘Canto de Ossanha’ (1966), which marked her consolidation as a major artist; ‘Madalena’ (1970), which introduced Ivan Lins to a wider audience; and ‘Casa no Campo’ (1972), representing her artistic maturity. The film also features her historic connection to Tom Jobim through the recording of ‘Águas de Março’.
