Elisa and If Kindlustus warn of cyber insurance phone scams
Telecommunications company Elisa and insurance provider If Kindlustus have issued warnings regarding a new phishing scam targeting customers. Scammers are making phone calls claiming to offer free cyber insurance, a service recently announced as a collaboration between the two companies.
Fraudsters instruct victims to activate this purported free insurance by confirming requests via Smart-ID PIN codes. Both companies emphasize that they will never ask for PIN codes, Smart-ID, or Mobile-ID credentials over the phone for identification or to finalize insurance agreements.
Elisa advises individuals to immediately terminate any unexpected calls requesting such confirmations. If a person has already shared information or confirmed a transaction under fraudulent instructions, they are urged to contact their bank immediately and report the incident to the police.
