Elisa Zanni establishes floral business in Castelnovo Monti

Elisa Zanni, a 35-year-old entrepreneur, has established a floral business, Fiord’Elisa, in Castelnovo Monti. Despite the challenges of operating in a mountain region, Zanni chose to remain in her hometown rather than seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Zanni opened the shop in September 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. She noted that while the timing was uncertain, the pandemic's restrictions on movement actually helped local businesses by keeping residents within the area. Her mother later joined the business as a partner.

Zanni highlighted both the benefits and difficulties of mountain commerce. She emphasized the strength of local human relationships and the unique lifestyle of the Apennines, but noted logistical hurdles such as the difficulty of sourcing fresh materials compared to urban centers, alongside the general administrative and financial pressures of running a small business.
