Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist tasked with exploring Swedish government options

Swedish Speaker Andreas Norlén has appointed Center Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist to investigate potential government formations that can be tolerated by the Riksdag. She is required to submit her report by October 26.

Thand Ringqvist has proposed a broad center government excluding the Left Party and the Sweden Democrats, suggesting Magdalena Andersson as a potential prime minister candidate. However, several parties have expressed opposition to this vision. The Green Party has refused to join a government that includes the Christian Democrats due to climate policy disagreements, while both the Liberals and Christian Democrats have declined to participate in a Social Democrat-led administration.

The Christian Democrats have indicated they would only consider a cross-bloc government in the event of war or a serious crisis. Following the September 13 election, the parliamentary distribution remains fragmented, with the Social Democrats, Left Party, Green Party, and Center Party holding 176 seats, while the Moderates, Sweden Democrats, Christian Democrats, and Liberals hold 173. The Center Party has maintained its position of not choosing sides between the blocs.
