Elisabeth‑Jane Ross dead in Athens suitcase, police search for 'American friends
Elisabeth‑Jane Ross, a 38‑year‑old Scottish woman, was found dead inside a suitcase in a derelict building on Evelpidon Street in the Kypseli neighbourhood of Athens on 18 July 2026. A homeless man discovered the suitcase after noticing a leg protruding from it. Ross had been staying with Greek friends in the Keratsini district and, on 15 July, told them she would go to Kypseli to meet a group of “American friends”. Police have cleared the Greek acquaintances of wrongdoing and are now tracing the alleged American contacts.
Forensic examination found no obvious injuries or signs of struggle, and the cause of death is pending toxicology results. Ross was identified through Interpol and U.S. fingerprint databases after her DNA did not match Greek records.
