Italian player Elisabetta Cocciaretto staged a dramatic three‑hour comeback to defeat Denmark’s Clara Tauson in the Washington WTA 500 round of 32. After dropping the first set 4‑6, Cocciaretto rallied to win two consecutive tie‑break sets, 7‑6(2) and 7‑6, securing her place in the last 16.

The victory follows a strong start to Cocciaretto’s season, including a title in Hobart, a quarter‑final run at a WTA 1000 event where she beat Coco Gauff, and a win over Emma Navarro in Rome. Earlier this year she suffered a heavy loss to Iga Świątek at the Australian Open.
