Elise Mertens and Sander Gillé advance in US Open doubles

Belgian players Elise Mertens and Sander Gillé have advanced to the second round of the US Open doubles tournament.

In the women’s doubles, the eighth-seeded duo of Elise Mertens and Diana Shnaider defeated Hanne Vandewinkel and Daria Snigur with a score of 6-1, 6-3. Due to a withdrawal by their scheduled opponents, Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse, Mertens and Shnaider will receive a walkover into the third round.

In the men’s doubles, the Belgian-Dutch pairing of Sander Gillé and Sem Verbeek secured their place in the second round after defeating Alexander Blockx and Dino Prizmic. Following a first-set tiebreak, Gillé and Verbeek won the match 7-6, 6-3. They are set to face the fourth seeds, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, in their next match.
