Eliud Kipchoge breaks Melbourne Marathon course record
Eliud Kipchoge, the two-time Olympic marathon champion, won the Melbourne Marathon on October 11, 2026, setting a new course record with a time of 2:09:08 to 2:09:10. This victory marks his 17th career marathon win and his first since the 2023 Berlin Marathon.
At 41 years old, Kipchoge stated that his body is “still peaking” and that he remains capable of competing with the next generation. The race was a key milestone in his “Eliud’s Running World” tour, a global initiative to run marathons on all seven continents to promote running for health, education, and the environment.
The men's race saw Australian Thomas Do Canto finish second in 2:10:35, with Reece Edwards taking third. In the women's race, New Zealand's Camille French secured victory with a time of 2:28:25, followed by Australia's Sinead Diver in second place.
