Elizabeth Almonacid selected for Santa Cruz provincial volleyball team

Elizabeth ‘Eli’ Almonacid, a 12-year-old volleyball player from Club Social y Deportivo Independiente, has been selected for the Santa Cruz sub-12 provincial team. Playing as a ‘punta’, she is the sole representative from her club chosen for the squad.

Almonacid began her athletic career at age eight, transitioning from basketball to volleyball under the guidance of her club's technical director, Matías Benítez. Her interest in the sport was influenced by her older sister, Ixa Almonacid, a libero for Club Barça in Río Gallegos.

The Santa Cruz sub-12 selection includes players from various clubs, including Boxing Club, Indio Nicolai, and Boca, as well as talents from Río Turbio, El Calafate, and Comandante Luis Piedra Buena. The team is preparing for a regional tournament scheduled to take place in La Pampa at the end of September.
