Elizabeth Banks to star in Karen Read drama series for Prime Video

Prime Video has ordered an untitled eight-episode drama series inspired by the Law&Crime and Audible Original podcast, ‘Karen’. Elizabeth Banks is set to star as Karen Read and will also serve as an executive producer alongside showrunner and writer Justin Noble.

The series is based on the real-life case involving the death of a Boston police officer found during a blizzard. The narrative follows Read and her legal team as they claim she is innocent and a victim of a conspiracy designed to protect the actual assailants. The production aims to explore themes regarding the true crime phenomenon, the justice system, and the breakdown of institutional trust.

Banks, who grew up in Massachusetts, noted that the case had a profound impact on local communities. Noble described the story as having significant complexity, touching on the mistreatment of women and the need for judicial reform.
