Elizabeth Taylor disliked the nickname ‘Liz’

Elizabeth Taylor’s longtime friend and former attorney, Barbara Berkowitz, has revealed that the Hollywood icon detested being called by the nickname ‘Liz’. Speaking at the ‘Elizabeth Taylor Night of Compassion’ in Beverly Hills, Berkowitz explained that Taylor disliked the name because it sounded like a hiss and reminded her of her brother.

Taylor had expressed this dislike in previous interviews, stating, ‘I hate being called Liz because it can sound like a hiss.’ Despite her personal aversion, the nickname has been frequently used in various media, including biographical works such as ‘Liz & Dick’ and ‘Liz: The Elizabeth Taylor Story’.

The name also held a tragic connection for the actress; her third husband, producer Mike Todd, died in a 1958 plane crash involving a private aircraft named ‘The Lucky Liz’.
