Željeznice Republike Srpske launches new Zagreb-Novi Sad freight route
Željeznice Republike Srpske has launched a new freight transit route connecting Zagreb and Novi Sad in cooperation with the Croatian railway operator Log Rail. The route, utilizing the “Devet a” corridor, aims to accelerate the flow of goods between the European Union, Serbia, and the Western Balkans.
The new service travels from Volinje through Dobrljin, Zvornik, and Brasina, providing a logistics link to the ports of Rijeka and Koper. The partnership is intended to offer secure, fast, and environmentally friendly transport services for various types of goods.
This operational expansion follows a period of significant financial recovery for Željeznice Republike Srpske. In September 2026, the company transported 140,000 tons of goods, resulting in a 193 percent increase in freight revenue compared to previous periods. This turnaround follows a difficult start to the year, which saw the lowest freight traffic results in 15 years due to industrial shutdowns in the region.
